Title: Registry Progress
Post by: ViperJeff on December 02, 2012, 06:42:08 PM
I now have 99.8% of the Viper VIN's and 100% of the Viper Truck VIN's I have less than 50 Vipers to find

The Quest Continues, even if it's value will never be ... of value

Cheers

Interesting that knowledge is invaluable.  Sometimes it`s worth millions (as shown by insider trading  :P) but mostly it`s the most expensive and often the most difficult thing to find and has no monetary value once you have it.  I think that at the very least it is worthy of respect as we always hold our mentors in high regard.

Oh believe me I'm glad I did it.  This will lead to so many other interesting facts and research is always easier when you have the basic information first.

I've just learned over the past 2 years that the Viper community has been let down so much that this kind of stuff has gathered the "Who give a F" label.  In time I hope to remove that label and place that value back in the Owners fun fact books

Different strokes for different folks.  To learn Forced Induction and fuel injection systems I bought a half dozen turbo Dodges and played with them.  Read the many websites and asked friends when I didn`t uncerstand from what I was reading and when I found conflicting info.  Then I tore cars apart and rebuilt them better.  Read then try it and see how well it works compared to what I read.  Many of the OLD Chrysler engineers had websites explaining how to make a Minivan go 11 sec with stock parts and a 2.2 Turbo motor.

Once I got around 400whp with a FWD I realized the massive limits of those cars and the amazing potentials of Forced Induction.  TT STealth`s with All Wheel Drive and AWSteering next and after getting my 500hp Stealth spanked after 120mph by a Z06 I finally got into Vipers.  I buy them, ask questions and then take them all apart and put them back together `MY WAY`to learn my cars inside and out.  Rebuilding my cars into MY idea of perfect is my way of research.  More expensive and perhaps more labor intensive than your research, but same quest for knowledge.  My knowledge is mechanical while yours is records and history.  Same but different.

Thats correct....

I wish I was more mechanical.....

I used to tear apart jets and put them back together, however, I was on the non engine side of that coin

Guess that would depend on if there was any time left over after you did your vin research?

Well, my number is based on VIN's that I've been able to verifiy (not giving away any secrets, the VCA is watching)

I have a Total of 510 VIN's that I have verified.  If I remember right, 507 was on the poster, but did not include the Gold one that was the last off the line, I believe that is one of the extra VIN's that I have.  Some day I'll have the color breakdown of all the Vipers (By Vin) and I'll know for sure

I've seen on the VCA every number between 502-509

I was going to buy the poster till I realized the information on it.... may not be acurate   :headscratch:

Title: Re: Registry Progress

non registered?  as in collector trucks?   :headscratch:  How many?

Ted, let me clarify....

Over the past (almost 6 years) I've researched and found just about every single Viper and Viper Truck VIN.  I think I'm at about 99.7%.  Unlike other Registries, I'm not sitting around waiting for owners, former owners, want to be owners to send me anything.  I research, find what I can and it goes in the database.  Personal information is intentionally left out for obvious reasons.  These would all be unregistered on "The Registry" and I use a numbered ID in which to track them (VTR-YEAR-XXXX for the trucks and VR-YEAR-XXXX for the car).  As people Register their Viper (as you did) they get an additional numbered ID (VTR-XXXX for the truck and VR-XXXXX for the car).  Both of these numbers are unique to my registry, if any one else is using them, they are using the data I find.  Once a Viper or Viper Truck is Registered, I hide the VIN and only display the personal information the owner is will to share.  ( ie Color, Year, Screen Name, State and country and a picture).   I have had people send me over 150 pictures of a single Viper Truck and they have all went into the Registry.

If I find that a Registered one has been sold, I update the database to reflect that.  I use very little to Register a Viper or Viper Truck.  A picture of the VIN tag on the door (it shows me info I need Date of MFR, MDH and PNT) and a picture of the Viper or Viper Truck... thats it.  Again, I have people send me a lot more and some do just that, two pictures.

This makes my registry also pro active instead of reactive.  Anytime I see one and know the VIN I can update it's status.  I see one on coparts.com come in a wad, I can list it as dead.  Each time I see one for sale, I can document it's health if you will.  I've seen Silver Vipers painted Black and White one panted Blue.  and.... Totaled Vipers looking like they just rolled off the showroom floor.

maybe not the best answer, but hopefully it helps clarify registered and non registered

ACR - American Club Racer

ACR X would be American Club Racer - Experimental if the X holds true to the old GTX - Grand Touring Experimental.

R/T - Road and Track.  Now we have SRT which is Street and Racing Technologies

IROC - International Race Of Champions model.  (such as Daytona IROC and the LeBaron IROC cars)

No, there's hasn't changed a word since 2008.  I have just shy (I think) of 350 Registered Vipers in my Registry, by the end of the year, I hope to have that number well over 1000

Only time and participation will tell

I have all the build dates up through October 2005 for the Viper Trucks entered.  So for those that have a Viper Truck and know the build date, you can see what else was built on the same day

http://www.viperregistry.com/forum/calendar.php

Got all the 1992 Viper Build dates, I'll start working on them as soon as I finish the 2006 Viper Trucks.  And it continues...........

But, once I pay off the Income tax theives I might try to find a deal, fix it up a bit and resell again.  Starting to doubt it though.  I certainly havn't made a dime off any of the ones I sold so far.

Title: Re: Registry Progress
Post by: RTTTTed on May 10, 2013, 06:32:08 PM
Nope  :idk:  don't know anyone like that ...   I might change cars if they ever sold, but even when they're really cheap they don't seem to sell.  It's why I've got so many.  Use them, build them, perfect them, then park them and don't sell anything ...

I'd actually have only a tiny debt if I sold just the IROC and Duster ... never mind the Demon, Dart, Mirada, Dart Sport, and my Stealth performance parts.

Or ... I could charge money and do Dodge tours through my yard?  I thought that when Carroll Shelby passed away my Shelby Charger, my (Shelby) IROC R/T, my extra T2 engines and trans would sell for a few more bucks ... but no one has asked yet.

Well, I'm the kind of bouncer you got!

As technology improves cars go faster.  I always had the fastest car in the Valley.  If you would have told me that street cars could go 10.0ET and drive there getting 25mpg I would have laughed my ass off.  If you would have tod me that street cars could build 1100 to 1500whp by draining garbage unleaded gas and filling up with race gas and flipping a toggle switch I would have laughed even harder.

No I have that in my garage.  Always moving up in the world.  I remember when a Hemi road runner would only go mid 13 seconds with a good driver at the wheel.

I read that 1 out of every ten keys was a master for various of other cars back in the day.  I'd guess if I had to provide Master keys - they'd come with a Hemi ...  at least it beats the heck out of a 6 banger Valiant key starting a Hemi.

Been some time since I talked about the Registry.  Just checking in to say that even though it seems pretty quiet in my corner of the planet, progress is moving at a very steady pace.  Not near as far on the Vipers as I am on the trucks, but hell, there are 3 times as many and 7 times as many years to deal with.  I have lots of goals to finish by the end of the year.  I would like to be up to 3000 Viper trucks fully registered and if I'm lucky maybe 1000 Vipers (keep in mind, I do this pro actively).  It's also kind of interesting the number of Vipers and Viper trucks that I'm finding that have been shipped out of country.  Seems every country loves the Viper and Viper Truck.

More to come sometime down the road as I've just scratched the surface...

Good Day!

* THIS! totally the reason why I started putting build info in my app... I didn't realize how far Jeff was into it or I probably would have left it out...
For me it was more of a purchasing info type deal. Someone buying or selling a car could look up info on their phone or table right there as they are looking at the car.
Know if the car was supposed to have stripes.. painted wheels... etc

* THIS! totally the reason why I started putting build info in my app... I didn't realize how far Jeff was into it or I probably would have left it out...
For me it was more of a purchasing info type deal. Someone buying or selling a car could look up info on their phone or table right there as they are looking at the car.
Know if the car was supposed to have stripes.. painted wheels... etc

How much of this have you got, I work on it at a pretty steady rate, however, it may be years before I have it all done.

My info is simple general stuff... nothing like yours...  not associated with VINs  only how many could have had stripes and painted wheels...

Yea, the hope is at some point, one would be able to check "The Registry" and just know what the Viper (they are looking into) came with, no guessing.  I'm also trying to keep track of salvaged titles and a few other things.  You would be surprised at the number of Vipers I've found, titled the year of its production year and never titled again.

I can see I will be referring people to your app a lot, maybe someday, your have to toss the Viper Truck data in your app too (as a future release maybe)

I'd like to add the Viper Truck data... I just don't know much about VT's..
I can start by adding some trucks to the gallery right now...
Right now I'm on build info with the exception of a few photos Gen's 1 & 2 are done in the app. I will release the app before adding the rest. I can see where this data input could go on for infinity before ever calling the app finished...

The app is loaded into a simulator right now. I'll get you a link so you can go look at it tomorrow. Not everything works totally perfect but you will get the idea of how it will look. Its fun stuff... No where near as informative as your registry.

Off to my weekly H20 Volleyball match... its supposed to be 102 here today. So glad the game is in a pool...

See you guys later.

http://www.vipertruckregistry.com/screwturnwiki1/ (http://www.vipertruckregistry.com/screwturnwiki1/) Viper Trucks

Building all the sub lists will take some time

OK, time to get back to work

Got a little bit more done, identified some more Night Runners, that chore is getting closer to being done

Need to really start working on the Vipers again, data sources are starting to dry up, or just too expensive

Good-Day

Will probably be done with 2009 Vipers later today with the collecting of data (color, interior, stripe, etc.....) Compiling the data is a different story, not sure when I will work on it as there hasn't been much interest in 2009's.  Then off to 1993 and work my way up... fun ;)

Really made some good progress over the past week, I now have less than 20k Vipers to document.  It's fun to see the list coming together.  I'm hoping that by June I will be done and have a compiled set of data that makes sense for all the Vipers from 1992 thru present.  I'm really starting to get excited... damn I wish I could do this faster.  The hardest part will still be the build dates.  I will be working on them last those cost .... $$$'s.  Even with that, you should see me grin.

Ted, thank you for helping me keep my passion alive..

I have a little over 300 to go to have all the details of the 1994 Vipers done (minus the build dates).  Down to about 16k Vipers overall.  Just might make my June deadline.

In other news, offered the VCA the same thing I did for the VOA.  I did get an email from Greg mentioning I would have to do a confidentiality agreement.  I asked him to send it over, haven't heard anything since.  Oh well, nothing lost, nothing gained.

Without a doubt I will save the build dates till last, need to sale a few more Viper Truck dash plaques to cover the expense.  It's going to really be exciting to see it all in book form...

Spent some time reformatting the way I'm going to display data..... Trying to make things a bit more uniform and preventing compile errors where identical items are separated because some of the details I have are displayed in different orders.  Down to my last 9 years, need to work a little faster to beat the June 2014 deadline.

12 more days, then it's back to two jobs for the foreseeable future.  8 hours working for the MAN and then just about all my free time helping the Wife with her new business.  It's great to be back into the self employed marketplace.  Always made 3x more than working for the MAN.

I really didn't get everything done that I wanted to.  2002 thru 2008 I really didn't get finished. I have the data, still need to compile it.  The goof the other day really slowed progress.

So, if there is any year that you would like me to complete (what data I have that is), let me know.  Because April 1st is when I stop being a fool and get back to where I was 7 years ago

Cheers and have a great day
