Seems to be 3 Vipers in the Rally so far.

Joe Christopherson and I will be running the Halfmile Shootout tomorrow.

Did the Caravan to Ely this afternoon and wife tried to set the GPS Garmin Nav unit to the start line -  but was 200' past when she skdded to a stop ... so we'll try to punch in the Global Co-ordinates tomorrow and I'll try to use that as a stupid guide.  Easier to read the big numbers of my speed and if we get a decent start I might be able to use the average moving speed.  Then Trevor can call out the corrections as he finds them.  Time is the most important factor in a Rally.  The GPS is measureing BEHIND where it is situated so it's not the best guide and won't win.

Trevor, Terri, Deana and I at Sam's Town Pool in Vegas.

Not many European teams here this event.  Only the (DODGE) Lamborghini Diablo with driver from Norway and Navigator from France.

It was good to see Bunny Hill at the administration desk this event again!

Half dozen of us got rained out today so our halfmile shootout will be tomorrow morning.  UGR Lamboghini Superleggara 1500whp went 205mph in the halfmile in the rain (says Mark Cappener of the Data Logger).  Mark brought his new TT Lambo, his ZR1 vette and his RSI TT SRT10 Viper.  It's not fair.  I can't afford to ply much in the Lamborghini game of "many millions".

Seems that the organizers were a half hour late and that was when it started to rain for a bit.  I used the wait time to change out my passenger side spark plugs in the lineup.  The driver's side plugs I changed at the Hotel in the morning while waiting for the Registration to open at 8am.  Then we did Tech where they had to wait for us to apply the decals.  Then I added some octane booster and fueled.

Only 14 cars entered in the Halfmile and 8 got their 3 runs in today.

We did the parade through Ely tonight and ate a great 'Welcome to Ely' banquet.

When we got to the Hotel yesterday and I backed into a parking space there was a little kid (preschooler) that was dancing around and jumping up and down while I parked.  His Mom said that he HAD to tell me that it was HIS dream car!  I thought it was kinda cute but my wife was in the room watching the kid and said that he was totally thrilled with my car.  There were a LOT of kids and even a few toddlers watching the parade that had the time of their lives collecting candy and having all the drivers and passengers waving to them.

The rain in Ely is dirty.  Couldn't believe how dirty it made my car.  I called the front desk and asked if I could use the garden hose to rinse my car.  The clerk was amazed ...  "  With our water?"    "I'll call the owner and ask permission, no one ever washes their car here."  20 minutes later she called and said OK and I asked for the janitor's key to open the tap.  He walked out to the parking lot and brought it to me.  It was great having Trevor as the waterman and Terri drying while I used my garbage can, a squirt of shampoo and one of my microfiber towels to wash the dirt, dust and desert sand off of my Viper.

Looked to be about 100 cars in the Parade.  Interesting that here in Ely the Police/Sherriffs only close one side of the street and leave the other side open.  We were asked if we HAD to throw candy ... please only throw it to the passenger side to keep the little kids from running into the traffic ...  The Parade went well.

At the Parade Trevor wanted to see what the "Formula One" looking car was so I parked behind it.  It was a Ultima GTR.  An Italian Kit Car built in Italy for you ... that is very expensive.  There is one near (200miles) my house in Nimpo Lake so I am familiar with the car.  This yellow UGTR was impressive because it had a LS7 the owner said.  Looked like a early Z06 to me though.  Although these cars are very light I'm not overly impressed by a tube chassis kit car ... I'd seen Twin's Turbo Viper GTS at Mojave a couple weeks ago and IT looked impressive.  A tube chassis lightened Viper body with a 1800hp V10 is near perfection for speed.  A n/a LS7 (or Z06 engine) in a tube chassis seems about 1000hp less than impressive now

Freemont street (las vegas) has the largest big screen TV in the world over the top of it for concert showings such as this Van Halen and Brian Adams concerts.

Started off well.  I ran about 175mph (I was told in the half) mile at 4200'.

Then the Lambo broke in the middle of the street while trying to turn around.

Then I busted my trans going into second gear and needed a tow.   :-\  Kinda hate it when that happens.   :idk:

Joe's navigator didn't show up in time for the Navigator's meeting and Trevor will be navigating for Joe tomorrow morning.  My car is being stored inside at the tow yard until I come back with my trailer to pick it up.  Mostly life is good, but sometimes it gives you lemons.   :'(

On with life.  I didn't bust my tranny case and I "feel" the gears in the rear of the trans broke.  It might not be junk ...

It looks like the Lambo (on race gas) got fastest car (1st place) and either I (on pump gas) or the RSI 1000hp Viper TT (on race gas) got second with the other taking third place in the halfmile.   :idk:  We'll find out tomorrow at the Awards Banquet. :eatspopcorn:

Leslie - It was too big ... I could only shoot half of it.  It was weird, the street was lit up with Neon everywhere ... then the TV roof can on a bit and they turned off the neon for all the Casinos and Buildings.  Freemont is where Golden Nugget and several other of the original Casinos are.  Lots of great prices on food.  They had zip lines that went 4 blocks to the other end of Freemont st.  Definitely interesting.  New Orleans they require that girls flash their tits for a bead necklace.  Freemont St. only requires that you go inside the Casinos/Store and collect the plastic bead necklaces - no flashing required.  Deana had 3 necklaces, Terri had 2 and Joe had one or two.  Trev and I didn't even pretend ...

Darryl - Going home -Freezer broke down - and I'll pull it there.  I have tailshaft gears and I guess it's possible (?) that I broke those?  I figure with another couple runs I could have made 185+

Steve - I wish it was a Space/Time shift ... to after I fixed it!  I'm wondering if re-tuning to get rid of the black smoke cloud behind my car under full throttle would add some hp?  How much a/f does it take to make the car disappear in black smoke?

::)  Trying to help the other guys that are racing I volunteered to drive a Chevy Silverado/Car Trailer to the finish line for a couple in the 130mph class.  I offered a couple of 130mph vette guys the back of the pickup truck for their gear (6 suitcases).

The Monte overheated and shutdown by the 8th mile of the rally.  At the finish line I found out he'd broke and left the message of where I'd left the keys.  His friend changed trucks on the trailer and when I spoke to him he said that he could only drive his truck and since they weren't sure if his car would start again, he was using the Monte's trailer with it's winch.  We hooked the GM I drove down (3.5 hr drive around) to the friend's trailer and I drove that to the friend's race car (78 Mustang II) at Ash Springs.

The Vette guys showed up at the finish line and althoiugh I left the canopy open for them they waited until I got back to the truck (1/2 mile walk from the finish pits) and let me get their 6 bags out of the truck.  Carrying their bags saved them a 3hr wait and a 5 hr drive to Ely and back.  They were happy with their run down Hwy 18 and excstatic that the "CANADIAN STRANGER" was at the finish with their bags.   :D

There were several breakdowns this rally.  The Monte Carlo, Blue's RX7 and a couple Camaros as well as a vette I was told.  We left before the Unlimited Classes came through and headed to the awards banquet at Sam's Town back in Vegas.  Weather in Vegas was a much cooler 97F when we got there about 3:30pm.

Casualties this Rally were a couple of birds and a squirrel.  No cruelty to animals and no harm to humans during this event.  Perhaps they need to have high speed rallies all over Nevada, we drove the side highway (93) south and there were a LOT of large Blood spots on the highway there.  Much more than a couple birds and a squirrel. :idk:

Results of the Halfmile Shootout were;

1st place at 201mph                                                                                  Mark Capener, UGR 1500whp Lamborghini TT.  Broken transmission after second run (car came with tuner)
2nd place at 175.5mph                                                                              Ted Hlokoff,   1999 TT Viper GTS 950whp.   Broken transmission after first run.
3rd place at 171 mph                                                                                 Mark Capener, 2004 RSI TT 1000hp SRT Viper

MILE SHOOTOUT

1st place at 209mph                                                                                   Mark Capener, 2004 RSI TT 1000whp SRT Viper

Mark was also running a ZR1 corvette.

Joe Christopherson's 2001 Viper ACR came in about 6th of 11 cars in the 105 class with Trevor Cameron as Navigator.  For a big change the 105 class had a LOT of experienced vette pilots running in the slow classes this year.  11 cars entered in the 105 class.  "Old Farts" Racing Team (read - mega vette team) had 1st and second place tied up with a Calgary Mustang coming in third.   The Mustang was on MY Team before I broke, and since my 2nd place trophy didn't count they used the top 5 cars in our (90% Canadian) Team to come up with about 4th place.

Jim Peruto was running a 2006 Dodge Charger (ex-Busch NASCAR) to average 217.5570mph throughout the course setting a new world record!  His finish line speed was 252mph and the speed going into the first turn of the course was 281mph!  Another world record for the book of Guiness World Record to correct.  10mph faster than the previous record!  That is gonna be tough to beat.

Although the extreme high precentage of Corvettes in this event was probably about 40%, Dodge did own all the high speed stuff except the Lambo's new record run in the Halfmile shootout.  Just my luck that I come to "lay a beatin'" on Mark's TT and he comes up with a 1500whp Lambo that has AWD and beats me.  :o

Oh well, I did beat his faster than before 1000whp+ TT Viper running his race gas tune.

At the finish line Trev, Joe and I met for the first time that day.  It was a good race and they had fun.  They finished the race with a time that would have been a third place finish in my class.  A Mustang Team from Calgary won the 105mph class.

This picture taken with the starter at the Mile and Halfmile start.  Yes, he started the Milers off by shooting his gun/s.  Tradition.

At the Awards Banquet they called Trevor and I to the stage to get the Halfmile 2nd place plaque.  We were wearing our Viper Garage shirts of course.

Thanks Tim,  too bad you didn't have time to come and meet up.

Not sure what happened to the tranny.  Hopefully it's a easy fix since the stock tranny in RSI's slower TT was fine.  I recommended to Mark Cappener that he buy a GForce race tranny for his car.   I heard grinding noises inside my tranny so it is possible that it could be expensive.  I did all easy launches and smooth shifts so the tranny must be worn or ready to fail.

You should check out www.racethebase.ca because that's the one I'm hoping to get to in August.   At the SSCC I was told by one of the mechanics in attendence that chances are that Hennessey's two 1500whp Lambos probably won't show and he expected that they wouldn't be finished by Aug.(???).  That means running my 1300whp tune could be the fastest Supercar there ... although definitely nowhere near the most epensive.  I think that my TT GTS is the best looking car on the planet (why I bought it) and all costs to build the car is less than most of the exotics original purchase price.  World Class event.

I did want to set the halfmile record here ... bt the UGR Lambo was too much for my conservative pump gas tune (and tranny).   :D

Trevor asked the starter to pose with our www.vipergarage.com group at the startingline with us and found a girl that would click his camera.  Here's how we looked after the Mile Shootout was finished ...
