From previous discussion on the DriveSRT page we can call our old Vipers and Stealths SRTs ...   Dodge had SRT6s with the AWD Stealth and even the n/a as well as the supercharged Chrysler Crossfires.

DOHC head technology used with Maserati DOHC heads on TLCs (LeBaron Turbo) and Lotus headed Spirit R/Ts as well as the rare Daytona IROC R/T.   First attempt at the newly designed Dodge/Mitsu engine it made a lot more power than what it was suppsoed to so the North Amercian version came with IHI 9B (tiny turbos) with 7# boost.  North American Stealth TTs were 300bhp.  As designed they made 360bhp and that was too close to the 400hp Viper so they were all detuned.  The purpose of the Stealth TT was to beat out the corvette, which it did excepting at the end of the quartermile where the vette just managed to pass the Stealth.

Mine is knocking loudly at the front of the engine so I've disassembled the covers, the pwr steering and the alt. to check those.

The cam belt was loose.  I removed the tensioner.  Recent parts as it had some surface rust.  It worked fine.  Tired to loosen the temnsioner arm/pulley but the adjustment bolt was too tight and I had to remove the tensioner again to reset the holding wire.  After using the vise to loosen the locking bolt on the pulley adjuster I took a couple cheap drill bits, a chunk of steel and a nail and welded up a special tool to hold the pulley's alignment once adjusted and tighten the center bolt.

Here's the front of the engine with the pulley removed ...

I fixed the adjuster started assembly, then restarted the car before re-installing the covers and ...   Knocking like crazy again!

Took a break, went out, took it apart again and since I broke the 'special tool' I made it again using rivet nails because they are softer than drills and won't be damaged by welding.  Re adjusted the adjuster, then when I tightened the adjuster pulley the drill broke that was holding the plunger of the adjuster so I tightened the pulley much farther than spec and re assembled.  Started the engine several times and left it 20 minutes between engine starts.  Finally, no knocking.  Seems that the automatic tensioner is junk.  But it doesn't knock and I've done the maximium adjustment.\

Going to take several days to get a new tensioner so I'll drive the car and wait for parts.  I can probably rip the front off the engine n about 1.8 hours now.

Should be able to switch out the tensioner in under 4 hours next time.

Driving home from our store and stopped at the Dean River between Nimpo Lake and Anahim Lake on Hwy 20.  I took a Duster in the sunset pic at this location back in July.  Now the Stealth R/T TT

I do catch a lot of awesome pics, but sometimes in the wrong car, sometimes without the car, mosttimes without the sunset, etc.

ON Nimpo Lake ice during sunset...  Couldn't get the Viper over the transition from ramp to ice so I ran the Stealth R/T TT out onto the ice instead.

Here Jeff, last years Hunter Green 91 Stealth R/T TT.  Heavily modified with 13G turbos, hard pipes, HKS ics, 6 spd, fidanza, etc etc etc and about 500hp AWD AWS from last winter.  Yes the TT is in the background.

Here it is on the Ice road on our lake Jeff ...      sorry about it being dirty.  Wash water just doesn't work at -20
