I have always run vinyl bras on my Vipers.  Beside padding and ruining the bra the padding keeps the paint awesome!  My 30,000mi GTS needs a frojnt end repaint and it has some clear 3M on it.

Cost for a front bra is about the same as front paint!

Might be Viper Tax?  At the local car show last summer I won a complete front end 3M covering with was a stated value of $550.  My friends that bought 3M covering seem to have all paid from $1000 to $1200 BEFORE 12% taxes.

On the side sills I would recommend the 3M as the bulge gets sand blasted and can't be protected with a vinyl front bra.  I'd suggest doing the Cat removal (or hiflow cats in good shape) mods or venting the sidesils before applying the plastic covering though.

:idk:  I had a front bumper repainted for $300 Viper Red with silver stripes.

My exhaust panels (sides) are sand blasted at the bulge and need repainting and after repainting them I will apply the 3M film over them though

Excellent, buy him a Rivnut tool.  It's a riveter that sets threaded inserts into the car so he can use machine screws instead of those tiny selftapping screws that easily overtighten and fall off.  the "Rivet Nuts" instal into the car so when the side sills are reinstalled the new screws (get the heads painted with the side sillls) will hold the sills without loosening or falling out.

Find a different place.  $700 is a ridiculous price.  I think the shop time for fascia removal is about an hour.  I heard of guys doing it in a half hour.  The side sills are about 15 minutes a side.  They are very easy to get off.  I've had my side sills done twice.  Pulled them off myself each time.  $400 to paint sills and fascia with the body shop removing the fascia.

I don't like vinyl bras.  Hard to keep them tight..they flutter...the fleece behind gets dirty...especially with rain...then the dirt flutters against the paint.  If they do get wet and plastered with bugs on a trip, you have to flush them off, try to clean the fleece, and let it dry.  If not, it stays moist on the car paint, and covered.  1 fascia paint jobs, 2 side sill paintings in a 111K miles.  Works for me.

Haven't tried the clear stuff.  Might be good for the side sills cause you can't stop the bulge from getting beat up

A Deer smashed into my Sapphire GTS, so when I get the car fixed the pain they use is waterbased.  Since it's such a lousy soft paint I will have a clear bra installed to the front of the repaint.

The Gen 2 paint is a polyurethane base/clear.  You should buy the paint yourself and supply it to the bodyshop.  In Canada bodyshops are all using waterbased and some  will spray the better urethane paint if you supply it to them.

Yeah almost all water based here. That's what they used on my side sills. it matched perfectly but I don't like water based, to soft.

For the side sills the other option is to build aluminium side skirts such as Dave6666 built for his car.  These will deflect the air but mostly deflect the road debris and save repainting.

Next time I get a chance I'll buy some aluminium and get pieces to make 2 sets for my cars

I drove my GTS home in the rain.  500 mile and the side sill bulges had many rock chips when I got home.

Thankfully the bodyshop used Black primer so I don't have glaringly obvious white spots all over, like my Black TT GTS or my Blue Pickup.  or my Green Stealth hood.

Bodyshop said they have clear rockguard they'll spray over the paint.  I'll be 3m coating the bumper
