http://vipernation.com/?p=874  is my/our Silver State Classic (actually Nevada Open Road Challenge) experience with the Sapphire GTS.  Last year I stepped up and took my TT GTS.  Another guys stepped up and brought his NEW 1500whp UGR TT Superleggara and he beat me by a few mph.  I was running KDW2s and RWD, he was running AWD, and DOT road slicks with a race gas tune.  I was running a pump gas tune (about 1100whp) and he beat me.  At least I beat his RSI1000 TT SRT - which beat my Sapphire GTS the year before.

Unfortunately, both of us broke our transmissions after the first run ...  My TT GTS collected 2nd place when I ran 175mph in the Halfmile, with no traction until 130mph.  My Sapphire GTS ran 151mph the year before which was fast enough for 3rd place.  Vipers took home 2 of the 3 trophies!

A lot of people noticed that Vipers collect an inordinate amount of trophies since only a few are entered each year.  Surprizing that only a few vettes win although there are as many as 45 vettes competing?  I love the opportunity to beat 45 hp vettes all at 1 shot!

 8)  We have a lot of fun when we go to Car events.  It's not just about beating down the GMs, the Lambos and Ferraris ... it's about friends and enjoying the company of hundreds of like minded people.

Looking at the results from   http://www.sscc.us/event_results/results-12-norc.htm   I see that although I lost to the kazillion dollar race gassed Lambo 1500whp in the half mile - my pump gas tuned Viper GTS is faster in the mile since I ran 215mph at Mojave Mile the week before we ran the NORC last spring.  Problem is that you are required to complete the Grand Touring class before being allowed to run the mile and Sport classes.  My trans broke so I need to run the 120mph class before being allowed higher speeds and the mile shootout.

My Navigator will be John of Washington.

John is an autoX expert and owns a 2001 Sapphire/silver GTS!   :D  John has recently received his 900+hp normally aspirated Viper engine.  Build by Exotic Engines and tuned by the famous Chris (mentioned in another thread - he'll be tuning in June at Edmonton this year).  His exotic engine is a GTSR build with some nearly unique parts and will be featured in a thread on this site soon.

I find that people that are good at one thing (John is an AutoX expert) are usually good at everything related.  John's plans are to run my right seat this year and run his driver's seat next year.  I'm sad that my usual navigator (Trevor Cameron) can't make the time to run again this year, but there are bigger events in the future I'm hoping.  With a sponsor or two I could compete in the Chuahuahua (1600kms) of Mexico or the Texas Big Bend Open Road Rallies.  Race the Base was a good one that I excelled at and hoped to run my TT GTS at, but I think that it is finished after the last events problems.

SSCC/NORC is a Bi-yearly event and with it's fame and infamy should continue as long as there are people that will be willing to run it.  It is a volunteer organization.

I found last (2012) years NORC story only partially written so I've added a page to that story and will continue writing it until I get it finished and then edit/proof read it a half dozen times to get it right.

I will be using my Roe supercharged Sapphire GTS again.  Since I broke my racing trans in my TT I decided that I'll leave it home until I find some competition for it.  Next SSCC/NORC I should be able to use the full cage and a little of the power to run the Mile Shootout and the 150mph class.  This year I'm still stuck running max 125mph Class and only the Halfmile Shootout.  With Fastest going to Mark's UGR 1500whp LAMBO and his race tuned RSI 1000hp Viper I only have a chance at 3rd fastest.  Last time I ran my Sapphire Roe GTS I only made third place becuase I was beat by a '80 supercharged V8 Porsche ...

I've book Hotel rooms and paid the entry fees online so I'm booked.  Buying US medical insurance is my next requirement.  I've asked Joe to buy me another arm restraint for my navigator and I need to switch the 5 point safety harnesses from the TT to the Roe Viper.  I didn't want to have to buy another couple sets of seat belts because they are only good for 2 years in my TT (safety rules only allow a max of 2 years use our of safety harnesses).  Seems a stupid rule for 2 sets of belts after using them once or twice a year.  Impossible to wear out unless you race all the 24 hr road races that are available across North America ...  Anyone ever do that?    :idk:

Anyone wanting Hotel phone numbers etc. PM me and I'll send you the info.  Sam's Town Hotel and Casino n Vegas grants rooms for $29.95 per night if you use the USSC  'code'.  Hotel Nevada (Ely) is where Joe stayed last year at $29 per night.

Mike and John  will be attending in Mike's modified Hemi magnum again!  Had fun hanging with these guys back in 2011.

Willowbrook Chrysler (Doug Seal) has paid his entry fees and will be bringing a ZR1 team along with him (both Cdn dealership owners).  Joe/Lilbro and his navigaor will also be meeting us in Vegas for the Media luncheon on the 16th,

My seat belt harnesses are installed and only the driver's seat is left to bolt into the car, buy insurance and I'll be ready to go.

I wire brushed off the dragon flys and bees that were close to plugging the oil cooler and radiator fins.  Scraping the nose has caused a few of the rivets in the Roe front fascia to come loose (they're just in plastic) so I removed the loose ones, added a couple more and painted the chin spoiler flat black again.  I did an oil and filter change today as wel.  Pulled the blower belt and made certain it was in good shape (it is).  Adjusted all tire pressures to 42psi and will adjust them again once I get into the "barely survive" extreme desert heat of vegas.

Built in SRX radar detector with Laser Scramblers is cleaned and working.  Just need to pack clothes and a few tools.  Tomorrow I'll wash the beast.

I need to remember to turn off the SRX radar detector since Louie ran RacetheBase and they couldn't get a speed reading on him until he shut his SRX OFF!

I just test drove and washed the GTS.  Dried it with microfiber and applied a coat of wax.  I punched John's address into my GPS and his phone number into my US phone.  Viper shirts and shorts packed, gloves, arm restraints, boots, helmet and some tools loaded to go.  I have 2 new Mopar front bras so I'm replacing the torn worn out one with a brand new one.  That still leaves me with another bra for the TT.  Going out to buff the wax and stick the GPS to the windshield.  Illegal to stick anything to windshield of car in Calif. so I'll go east.

I bought insurance over the phone/fax so when I drive out I need to stop 200miles into my trip and pick up my year's sticker and papers.

John just counted the cars in this event.  103 cars.  Only junk I saw was a VW Golf.     he ran the halfmile so we'll be able to check the website and see how fast (slow?) he went.

As I said earlier, "This is the best place for Vette spankin'.  Today there was 33 Vettes!  Yahoo!

:D  We got back from the Awards banquet.  Mopar won BIG!

33 Corvettes out of 103 cars entered in the event.  8 Mopars total participated.

110mph class ..........................................  WINNER  .........................2009 Viper ACR/Doug Seal and Brent Seal with a speed variance of 0.0066mph!

115mph class .........................................   WINNER ..........................2001 Viper GTS/Ted Hlokoff and John Vittone with a speed variance of 0.0126mph

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Halfmile Shootout-

WINNER; 2001 Viper GTS                                Ted Hlokoff and John Vittone      147.9mph

Second; 2008 SRT8 Challenger Superbird           Joel Highsmith                          147.3mph

Third ;    2011 Corvette ZR1                                                                        145.2mph

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to JonB - PartsRack and Devin of Unitrax for their generosity and help.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Team time contest put the Mopar Maniacs into 5th place out of 8-

If they would have counted trophies Mopar Maniacs would have been first or second, but the scoring for teams is the 5 lowest time varuiances added together.  Most of the other teams had 10 members while we were running with only 7.  We did get 6 trophies between 4 of us.

Yahoo!  Out of only 4 Vipers entered (out of 103 cars) two Canadian Vipers won trophies and I am bringing home 2 of them!
