I was asked to captain a team of Mopars.  Everyone left early (to the Whore House/Bordello) for the Hooker`s Choice Awards.  The Challenger Superbird won first and someone else`s Sapphire/silver Viper won second place!  The vettes didn`t place, although last year`s T shirt has a Vette as the winner.  (another Mopar victory putting the vette behind, ).  Anyway, since I was in the Halfmile I couldn`t hang around at the car show Sat morning and I asked the Nostalgia Team to put out 7 Mopar team form into the Administration.  We missed one (67 440 mag Charger) but every other Mopar at this Rally was signed up on our team (only 7).  Not much support for Mopar out here in  the west ???  Anyway, Mike Fine (newer SRT8 Magnum), Doug Seal and Joe Christopherson were with me and that meant that we were responsible for MOST of the `MOPAR MANIACS`.  We also had a 392 Challenger that was owned by a San Diego Cop that I`d made friends with the last year at SSCC.

At the Half mile we got to see Doug Seal wind up his 2009 SRT Viper ACR.  We havn`t seen the results yet, but Doug`s 3rd run was great and we expect a good mph number for him.  Our track altitude here is 6,500`.  Being in Nevada and the extreme temps, we LOVE the high desert.  It was 115F last year in Vegas and about 119F in Palm Desert Calif. last year.  This year it rained heavy and even snowed Sat. night.  While starting the Rally they changed to cars leaving the line at 30 sec intervals becaues Ely, Nv had a white out before the start of our Rally 16mi south.  We could see a wall of white coming towards us and it was only 8 miles away when John and I left the starting line with raindrops appearing on my windshield.  Soo happy we missed the snow (until I got close to home).

After the finish line we stopped by the officially named `Silver State Classic Challenge Highway`sign and got 3 Vipers together.  Next event there is a Venom Red/silver SRT coupe that will be on the `Mopar Maniacs`Team.  He was too late this year when he found me to sign up.

Joe Christopherson at back, Doug Seal then John Vittone and myself at the front.  All winners!

Here`s John pointing out that we RUN a PartsRack.com decal on our Viper.  He has decals for his 3 Vipers currently hiding in his 10,000ft garage.

Here`s our trophies at the Awards Banquet which is held at Sam`s Town Casino in Las Vegas.  A good friend of nearly all Viper owners TIMBO, had these custom high quality T shirts made and embroidered for theViperGarage.com crew year before last and 3 of those shirts were around the table.

John Vittone with a couple new trophies (and `Trinket`) to add to his Trophy case.  Joe Christoperson also received `Trinket`medal and stand for his efforts in promoting the Viper brand throughout the states and winning in Nevada.  Doug Seal I also `gifted`with a very fine piece of intricate aluminium craftsmanship to hang on his wall.  Thanks to you guys for paricipating and helping make the Dodge Viper the icon it is by kickin so many Corvettes in this event!  And thanks to Timbo for also helping out with The Viper image!  Unfortunately, I didn`t gets pics of the other two, but when I suggested to Doug that the SRT10 plaque would look great on his desk, he said, `No way.  This is going to hang on my wall!`

Doug`s SRT10 plaque looks similar to the ACRX plaque in the pic below, but wider ...

The 904hp Mammoth TS blower Hemi Challenger.  426 cubic inches of modern Hemi with some Mopar parts and other aftermarket pieces along with a body kit from Detroit.  This car won Hooker`s Choice award, although we missed being at the Brothel during the contest.  The `ranch`apparently hosted a decent party (we heard) and there was apparently quite a few people there.

The rain seems to make the air sparkle and it was raining while I took this group of shots outside of our Casino Hotel

Mike Fine`s fine Magnum SRT8 with modified Hemi and rockin`stereo!

Rookie Porsche GT3 RS.  Single spindle nut wheels etc.  Great graphics, which won him Rookie of the year award!  He was entered in the Halfmile, but no one ever said what the speed was.

Rookies are required to attend a Mario Andretti Driving course at 6am on Thurs.  Media banquet and then off to Ely.  Blue is the Rookie liason and leads the Caravan to Ely.  He stops at several places along the Rally route.  Blue tells some good stories about crashing and how to deal with breakdowns and safety.  Blue also provides a data sheet that will get you through the rally in the middle of the pack if you follow his directions properly.  Here are the new Rookie crowd listening to the instructions just after driving the Narrows.

Nice write up...good times were had by all! Look forward to the next one in Sept...but I'll be in the Viper eating Z06! Whatcha gonna do when the Z eats you?

Question; will I still be invited to the Mopar Maniac squad with a (gulp) Chevy?

I`m sorry Mike, but you`ll have to join the Òld Farts`3 team where all the Old Vette guys go.  Doug`s buddy in the ZR1 will join with you.  He told me that he`ll be back in the Fall for sure.

Not sure how well he took Doug winning the class that he was in   He was blown away when Doug texted him and told him that the our two Vipers collected 5 of the trophies, and the other Viper won Hookers Choice with the Chally.  The Challenger also won an award at the Car Show and 2nd fastest in the Halfmile.  I`m thinking that beautiful Magnum of yours would be perfect with a Mammoth blower?  :idk:   But ...  You`ll still be my friend Mike.

I`ll help you work on your Chev if it breaks ...

The way I see it is that there were 35 Corvettes in the event.  Most of them were from Vegas Vettes and Old Farts Club with vast experience in this type Rally.  There were 2 Vettes (or more) in every one of the slower classes, but 20 (of 35) finished off the podium.  Several classes they won because there was only a couple cars in that class.  With only 5 Vipers n the event ... three took awards and trohies (two firsts and a second).  Yes, I know, I`m terribly biased.  There were 10 vettes in the 150 class.  I LOVE it!
