Only 1.3 miles before a 132' timing gap  1 Sunday each month from opening Weekend in May till closing weekend in Nov.

6 Men walked on the Moon, but only 3 people have surpassed the 300mph speed at El Mirage.

El Mirage is in San Bernadino Valley and close to my Father-in-laws summer house.

El Mirage runs a weekend event and a closing event as well as a sunday per month between May and Nov.  El Mirage is the original home of the Southern California Timing Association.

Events were held att Muroc Lake which was part of Edwards Air Force base and in 1998 Herb Helbig set the Viper PROduction under 500ci class at 178mph.  Looks like that record will stand forever?

http://www.scta-bni.org/Muroc/Mrecs_cat_f.htm

Seems like a good place to get a license for the slower classes which would be valid at Bonneville.  Here's the El Mirage schedule;

El Mirage      2014

May 17-18      June 22   July 13       Sep 14      Oct 19      Nov 8-9

 The El Mirage season starts and ends with a two day event.

There is no way to set a record in a day.  License requires a day at least.  El Mirage requires that the first day (all events are listed as 1 day) be spent as a Rookie.  Special circumstances, Rookie starting line, first pass HAS to be under 150mph.  No records can be set by Rookies.

Safety rules look to be equivalent to Bonneville except that the 175mph safety rules (rollbar, fire extinguisher and parachute etc) are required for 160mph.

El Mirage runs many events through the summer and has a points standings.  To control "cheating" for points they have established a MINIMIUM speed for non fulfilled class records.  My class requires a minimium speed of 185mph to set a record.

http://www.scta-bni.org/pdf/2014/2014%20El%20Mirage%20Procedures%20Final_C.pdf

The above link will take you to a file that also includes rules and maps as well as the minimium speeds for setting records.

I wonder if I can run normal zr (Y)  tires at El M.  or perhaps I need the Bonneville tires at 175mph instead of 200?  Thinking about keeping a pair of 26.5' tires in case.  26.5 would grow to about 27.5"?  which would make my top speed  about 210mph with 3.07s.

I already have 6 Bonneville speed tires Jeff.  I need 30" tires for the rear and 25/26" tires for the front.  Bonneville 26" tires are too slow for the Salt but they would work at El Mirage.
