Unofficial fastest n/a Viper (218mph in the 3 mile course) is heading back to the Salt to run during a sanctioned (timed) event.  Congratulations and Good Luck Darryl!

Darryl will be headed out next week to the Salt flats.  He also sponsors Danny Thompson's attempt at "World's Fastest wheel driven vehicle" record car.  Challenger.

Pics and posts as Darryl and Greg Weflen send them.

Unfortunately, I was reading on facebook that it is raining in Utah.  Hoping the weather improves.

Darryls send me some pics to post and said he's loading his Viper into the trailer today.

I read a report from the Salt Flats today and everything looks good.  Tracks are set up and expected to settle/harden for the speed trials.  Water is at one end of the Salt but it's expected to be gone by tomorrow and ready to run.
Weather looks to be sunny and warm with a high density factor.  Good conditions for setting records.

Mike Cook posted some pics from Bonneville.  Here's a Ferrari in C/GT class.  GT is Vette, and Viper class.  Record in his class is 230mph

Here's Darryl's GTS.  No word from him, but obviously he made it onto the salt.

Here's the link to the vehicles in competition.  Most popular car seems to be Volkwagon Beetles ...  https://plus.google.com/photos/115248360774022016668/albums/6055785040238361041

Here's an email from Darryl I received this morning;

"My act tuner died Friday so I can't down load new tune heading into slc to pick one up now .

Salt getting better I think but not as good as it was in July

I spun off course in Third gear on second pass , got chute out and that helped some "

Yesterday Darryl said that they're fighting a headwind.  He sent a picture of the start line  No word on how his trip is going for him.

Danny Thompson averaged 419mph this morning.  They worked on the car the 4 hours allowed and now their car is parked in USFRA'a impound to wait for tomorrow morning to run a backup and set the new record.  Good luck to them.

Greg shot this pic.

Unfortunately, danny Thompson lost his clutch off the starting line today so he couldn't back up the 29mph faster than the record pass he made yesterday.  He plans on trying again at Mike Cook's shootout event (entry fee $10,000)

""Bad news guys. No record. We lost a clutch on the return run. We're going to work on it for the next two days, fix it, and get ready for Cook's Shootout, which starts Friday. Disappointed but not discouraged. Full update later here: www.thompsonlsr.com/news""

The Salt conditions were bad this event.  Darryl said that he wore the tread off his tires with only 5 passes!  He bought a Flash tuner to adjust his tune, but the SCT tuner crapped out before he could load the new tune that Chirs Jensen wrote for him.  Along with various other problems his best speed was 182mph this event.  He's licensed however and is planning on working the entire year for his entry next year.

We had a great time at the world of speed , saw some old friends and met some new ones , the Viper was a big hit and while we didn't go as fast as we did in July we learned a lot and spent time on the handling and some aero tricks to ensure stability at the higher speeds and will be back with more power and spEdnext year .
This sort of racing is not something you just show up to and set a record many have been running 40+ years trying to get there and it was interesting to see at the drivers meeting the number of guys in attendance that had been coming for 50+ and even one or two have been coming 60 + years to the salt , the lack of attitudes and grass roots feel is like no where else in the car world .
