New Viper Magazine is old magazine?

I understand that the VOA has decided to continue publishing with the same publisher that is now 4 issues behind? Ummm, why?
I would expect that since the VCA "plans" to continue there should be a conflict of interest ... ? What if CM actually pays them to do their job? I wonder if CM gave money to Bob Carroll for a contract that would compromise he VOA magazine publishing? Did the present Viper Mag publisher quit on CM as he professed FRT did?
Couldn't Maurice get a better deal closer to his home where he could have better control of his magazine?
I would think that unless you bought the magazine, format etc. from Chris Marshall's magazine and used the same publishing type, style, layout and programs you'd be infringing on CM's VCA magazine copyrights?
I agree with several others and wouldn't work too hard to copy the VCA, especially since the VCA looks to become a 100member club still and I never read that they were going to stop the magazine or give it away. I would bet that even if CM cancelled the magazine so he could keep his money he would still say how he wrote the magazine ("earned his wages - pay him) and it was everyone else's fault that the magazine was late. I remember when it was SRT's fault that their ads were late.

Same Printer that was used up until the last issue of the Viper Magazine. VCA is using another printer now.

So this would be CM's old publisher?
Personally I love the old magazine, but would have preferred a thicker mag with thinner paper but more pages. Kind of like Mopar Performance and Hot Rod style. But ... I realize that with all volunteer content it is difficult to find enough content to fill even the 64 pages ...

I believe it is the same publisher that JRT used as well as VCA used until CM decided to try & save a buck (or worse). The last issue was a disaster - pages falling out, inconsistent printing, etc. But VCA is sticking with their new printer. Were they asking too many questions of CM? No one really knows what the advertizing "commisions" were that he has been taking as far as I know.
By the way, it isn't the printer's fault that this years issues are four months late. That rests solely on CM's son, as he is the Editor and is obviously incompetent. As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Ted,
There is a difference between a printer and a publisher.
The printer takes a digital file or film and prints the magazine, kind of like going to kinkos and throwing something on the copier. printing or copying is not publishing, the publishing is the act of composing the magazine itself and doing all the parts entailed such as writing selling and placing ads, designing etc.
Some printers (large ones) print numerous magazines. And given the simple nature of the Vipermags, 3000 or less copies, sheet fed either stitched or perfect bound, there is most likely thousands printers across north america that can do the job. The one thing that Wilson Printing may have is the mailing list of the VCA, which if accessed by the VOA, could short stroke them right into supplanting the VCA mag

1. The new Viper Quarterly will not be anything like Viper Magazine. Much more upscale. Something you have on your cocktail table rather than in the john.
2. The last issue of Viper Magazine that was printed by Wilson Printing was the January 2013 edition (Launch Edition on the cover).
None
of the later magazines were printed by Wilson Printing. CM, Lee, and Dan decided to go with a cheaper printer, and you see what everyone got with the last issues, junk. Pages falling out, bindings separating right out of the envelope, even pictures upside down, etc. And guess what, looks like VCA members will get more of the same with a double Christmas issue immediately followed by the last issue. Three issues in 2 weeks, WOW! I'm sure the advertisers are just thrilled!
3. When Wilson printing did the magazines, turn around time from when Tim would get the final proof to mailed was
5 days.
With the new cheap printer it took
5+ WEEKS
from when they got the proof to when it was mailed.
4. Wilson Printing will NEVER do anything for the VCA ever again. Tim and his staff were treated horribly by the VCA.
5. Wilson Printing is doing the VOA management at less than half the price the VCA was paying CtoC. Heck, Wilson Printing was already doing 80-90% the work anyway of the VCA management.

Randall. are you saying that Wilson was doing the spelling correction and editing that Chris was paying himself for? I guess he was paying his kid for the editing later?
I certainly didn't hear a lot of good about the Marshall magazine the last few years. Chris's spelling was certainly improved however.
Pictures upside down? Impressive, lol.

No way. Tim just did the printing and the mailings. A guy by the name of Chris Colandra did the layouts.
I'm not sure who did the editing.
All I can say is whoever it was didn't know much about cars..... In one issue there were numerous articles about Carroll Shelby, authored by different people at Chrysler. In the articles, Carroll was spelled "Carol". I can't believe that the articles written by his co-wrokers and friends at Chrysler would spell his name wrong. I think whoever edited the magazine switch all the spellings of his name in all the articles. Very sad.

I heard a lot of complaints about the magazine once Chris made it his. Glad it'll be improved.

My understanding was that Marshall got paid the advertising money. Shouldn't matter if there's a magazine or not as far as he's concerned ...

Wondering about my new Viper Quarterly magazine. At VOA forums it seems that it's almost ready? 2nd edition (summer) is "full", but no publish date posted. It'll be interesting to see if the Canadian magazines are a month after the US gets theirs or not.
